Open Gate

A small scale environmental and sustainable development charity

About Open Gate

Open Gate, Brown House Cottage, Ashleyhay, Wirksworth, Derbyshire

Derbyshire in Winter

Open Gate is a small charity supporting grassroots environmental, land-based and sustainable projects to benefit local communities, both in the UK and abroad. Following the appointment of some new Trustees and resignations of long serving ones, this will be the focus in future.

The Trustees would particularly welcome applications from charities that have ecological sustainability as a focus. Schemes advancing social diversity and inclusion and those designed to promote well-being and welfare of people will also be viewed favourably. Furthermore, we advocate campaigns which are designed to become self-sustaining.

The Trustees have never supported medical charities or individuals and do not accept applications from charities based overseas.

At present grants are normally in the range of 500- 2500.

The charity was registered in July 2000. The trustees hold quarterly meetings to discuss applications. The meetings usually fall in January, April, July and October. Letters of application for grant need to be received six weeks in advance of a quarterly meeting to be included on that meeting's agenda.

As has always been intended Open Gate will be ceasing to distribute grants at the end of this year. To this end final applications for grants need to be received by Dec. 14th 2021. These will be considered at the January meeting of Trustees and any remaining funds distributed as they think fit.

Trustees past and present have been delighted to support many projects over the 21 years, both here in the North Midlands and overseas, and wish all of you the very best for an uncertain future.
